Is Solar Worth It?

Is solar worth it?  Yes, switching to solar is totally worth it.  Switching is something that more homeowners and building owners should consider doing.  You can reap the financial benefits from solar power by reducing energy costs.  Years ago many people switched to solar for environmental reasons but the cost was expensive.  Not anymore, now solar has become more affordable.  Let’s look at how switching to solar is worth it.

It’s not for everyone

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first.  Not everyone can successfully switch to solar power, you may not have the appropriate roof or geographical location for solar.  There are still some states that have pretty horrible policies when it comes to solar power.  In that case the switch may not be worth it.  However, before you start ordering solar panels and hiring an installer check with local authorities for the rules and any possible rebates you’re entitled to.  Here is a look at some of the government programs encouraging you to switch to solar.

For the rest it’s a good deal

In more than 85% of states, solar offers a better return on your investment than putting the same amount of money into a certificate of deposit.  Every home is different however but the average home will save money.  You need to first calculate what you spend annually on electricity, the age of your roof and if you have direct sunlight available to your roof.  There is probably already a homeowner in your neighborhood who has installed solar and you can always ask them if the project was worth it.

These factors will all go towards calculating the real cost of putting solar panels on your roof.  Now you have to put that against the cost of solar panels and figure out how much you can reduce your energy bill by.  Another thing you need to look at is whether there are any programs available for tax rebates at the state and federal level.  This can drastically reduce the cost of having solar installed on your home.

With climate change being a real threat to humanity and the need to change from burning fossil fuels, we need to look at alternative energy sources and things like wind, solar and hydroelectric power provide us with viable alternatives.  We can reduce our impact on the environment without compromising our way of life.  Alternative fuel sources give us the chance to do just that.
