Geothermal Energy Association presents Geothermal Energy 101 webcast

Join the Geothermal Energy Association Wednesday, July 23, for Geothermal Energy 101- the Hottest Clean Energy Source—Geothermal Development and Finance Workshop will take place from 9 a.m.-noon ET. For registrants not in Eastern Time zone, webcast will be archived to watch at your convenience.

Wind Powering America sponsors webcast for Ag industry

The third in a series of webcasts for the agricultural community sponsored by Wind Powering America will take place Thursday, July 24, at noon Eastern Daylight Time.

The Energy/Water Nexus: A case study of the Arkansas River Basin, presented by Stacy Tellinghuisen of Western Resource Advocates, will last about one hour. A half-hour question-and-answer period will follow the presentation. Using the Arkansas River Basin in Colorado and Western Kansas as a case study, Tellinghuisen will examine future water demands under "business as usual" and several alternative development scenarios.

International Wind Forecast Techniques and Methodologies

Bonneville Power Administration and California Independent System Operator are sponsoring a technical workshop for utilities and balancing authorities (control area operators) who are responsible for the integration of large scale wind and the wind forecasting vendors who support them.

The agenda focuses on identifying the leading international wind forecasting approaches for the operations and dispatch of large scale wind. Participants will:

  • Learn the latest techniques, methodologies and research to forecast wind energy
  • Develop “Best Practices” to establish the metrics of an accurate wind forecast

Midwestern Wind Energy: Moving It to Markets

The Midwest Governors Association (MGA) invites policymakers, energy industry professionals, government agencies and others interested in Midwest wind development to attend "Midwest Wind Energy: Moving it to Markets."

This meeting will focus on wind and transmission issues relevant to the Midwest, including the following topics:

  • Actions needed to implement transmission elements of the Midwestern Governors’ Energy Security and Climate Stewardship Platform for the Midwest

  • Contributions that Midwestern wind power can make towards achieving 20 percent wind power in the region and nationwide, as well as steps needed to achieve this potential.

This event is brought to you by the MGA, along with the National Wind Coordinating Collaborative, CapX 2020, Western Area Power Administration, Iberdrola Renewables, American Wind Energy Association, Otter Tail Power Company, Varnum Riddering Schmidt Howlett, Michigan Public Service Commission, NextEnergy, National Conference of State Legislatures, Great Lakes Wind Collaborative and National Association of State Energy Officials.

Still time to register for second geothermal workshop

If you missed the Geothermal Technologies workshop at TriState Generation and Transmission in Westminster, Colo., you have a second chance to learn about integrating this resource into your utility's portfolio. Western Area Power Administration, Bonneville Power Administration and the U.S. DOE GeoPowering the West initiative will present another workshop at Snohomish Public Utility District in Washington state Aug. 11-12. 

The workshop is sponsored by American Public Power Association, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and the Utility Geothermal Working Group.  Snohomish PUD is hosting the event at its Everett, Wash., headquarters. 

The workshop agenda is tailored to utility professionals who are interested in learning about geothermal technologies—including heat pumps and geothermal power production—who want to compare resource options and who want to improve on existing programs.

Registration fees are $90 for one day or $130 for two days.  Reduced rates are available for members or customers of sponsoring organizations.  The fee covers workshop materials, meals and refreshments.  Continuing education credits are available. Green power financial opportunities available on EERE Web site

The U.S. DOE EERE Green Power Network now posts solicitations for renewable energy generation, renewable energy certificates and green power on its Web site. Visitors can also sign up to receive e-mail updates about new green power RFPs. The RFPs and solicitations are from private organizations and are not endorsed by the Green Power Network.


PBS program looks at solar power

"Saved by the Sun" is an hour-long program presented by Nova. The program is divided into six chapters that can be viewed online with Windows Media Player or QuickTime. Classroom resources and program transcripts are also available.

PRP has teamed up with GreenEnergy TV to make our webinars available to the renewable energy industry and consumers–any time, any place you have access to the Internet.

Registration now open for Midwest REC-Tracking Market!

Iowa, Manitoba, Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin have jointly implemented a new regional system to track and promote the trade of renewable energy credits (RECs). The Web-based Midwest Renewable Energy Tracking System (M-RETS) is designed to encourage more renewable energy development, helping participants to meet renewable energy portfolio standards and objectives.

Power generators, utilities, marketers and qualified reporting entities wishing to participate in the M-RETS market can register now.
