Biomass

Biomass

Biomass refers to burning biologically produced materials—wood, leaves, various agricultural leftovers, food processing wastes, and so on—to produce electricity. The technical potential for this energy source is huge: there is far more fuel available than we could ever use, and the technology to use it is well proven and mature. The issues in this case are financial (biomass can be expensive) and environmental (biomass can be dirty as well). In addition, any process involving combustion is generally seen as less green by consumers, so biomass lags behind wind and solar in the green popularity contest. This fuel source includes municipal solid waste and landfill methane.
